9 Dec. 2021 -- Affton, Mo. -- EIghit-year-old Farhad Wardak (left), and his sister Fariha, 6, gather their school supplies before heading to the bus stop with their father Farid Wardack, a refugee from Afghanistan who recently relocated with his family to St. Louis, and with St. Louisan Delia Andrews at the family’s their apartment in Affton, Mo., Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021. Andrews, a parishioner at Ste. Genevieve du Bois Parish in Warson Woods, has teamed with her cousin Ann Wittman of Holy Infant Parish in Ballwin to help the Wardaks navigate life in their new country. In Afghanistan Farid Wardak worked with the US government, and was able to flee the country with this family as the Taliban returned to control of the country in August.
