Scholars and social work professionals gathered for the inaugural conference "Race at the Forefront: Sharpening a Focus on Race in Applied Research" at the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis Thursday March 28 and Friday March 29, 2019 at the Clark-Fox Forum in Hillman Hall in St. Louis. The Center for Social Development and CRISMA/Collaboration on Race, Inequality, and Social Mobility in America organized the conference with support from the Ford Foundation and from Grand Challenges for Social Work with support from Washington University's Brown School, Institute for Public Health, Office of the Provost, Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement and institutional Diversity, Clark-Fox Policy Institute and Sociology Department. During Thursday's sessions Angela Glover Blackwell, Founder-in-Residence at PolicyLink, delivered the welcome address. Other speakers included WU Chancellor-Elect Andrew Martin, Brown School Dean Mary McKay, WU Vice Provost Adrienne Davis, Center for Social Development Director Michael Sherraden, CRISMA Co-Director Darrell Hudson, Clark-Fox Policy Institute Director Gary Parker, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis economist William Emmons and American University professor and Brookings Institute Fellow Bradley Hardy.
