27 SEPT. 2014 -- MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. -- Karissa Pemberton, 7, plays in the backyard of her family's Maryland Heights home Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014. Karissa's older sister Kirstee died in 2004 at age 12 after battling brain cancer. Family members have faced other health issues which mom Kirbi Pemberton believes are related to the nearby West Lake Landfill and to her children attending Rose Acres Elementary, which is also close to the landfill.
