ALM SJH WWI MEMORIAL 18.JPG
21 MARCH 2013 -- ST. LOUIS -- Skip Berger (left), of the Rollo-Calcaterra American Legion Post 15 of St. Louis, presents an award of thanks to Bob Winters, architect of Ottolino Winter Huebner, for his work designing and install the World War I Court of Honor on the grounds of Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis Thursday, March 21, 2013. The memorial makes use of salvaged plaques created immediately after WWI to honor members of the military from St. Louis who died during the conflict. The plaques were initially installed on Kingshighway Boulevard in St. Louis, but with the passage of time and highway renovation some were lost while others were displaced and stored by the city's streets department. Eventually American Legion members raised funds to build a memorial to display the salvaged plaques as part of the Court of Honor. Photo © copyright 2013 Sid Hastings.
