Musicians, devotees of the Hindu god Krishna, play before the start of the Chariot Festival in Tower Grove Park in St. Louis Sunday, July 30, 2017. The festival is sponsored by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, St. Louis. Organizers said the festival originated in India more than 5,000 years ago, and participants pull the chariot with long ropes throughout the parade. Traditionally the Chariot Parade features Hindu deities Jagannath (Vishnu avatar), Balabhadra (his brother), Subhadra (his sister) and Sudarshana Chakra (his weapon) on a ratha, a wooden deula-shaped chariot.
