Shrinithi Karthikeyan (right) joins other volunteers in preparing the Turkish Pavilion at Tower Grove Park in St. Louis for the Chariot Festival, celebrated by devotees of the Hindu god Krishna Sunday, July 30, 2017. The festival is sponsored by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, St. Louis. Organizers said the festival originated in India more than 5,000 years ago, and participants pull the chariot with long ropes throughout the park. Traditionally the Chariot Parade features Hindu deities Jagannath (Vishnu avatar), Balabhadra (his brother), Subhadra (his sister) and Sudarshana Chakra (his weapon) on a ratha, a wooden deula-shaped chariot.
