ALM SJH WWI MEMORIAL 12.JPG
21 MARCH 2013 -- ST. LOUIS -- A plaque honoring Medal of Honor winner Fred Stockham adorns the World War I Court of Honor at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis Thursday, March 21, 2013. Members of the Rollo-Calcaterra American Legion Post 15 of St. Louis led the efforts to create memorial. It makes use of salvaged plaques created immediately after WWI to honor members of the military from St. Louis who died during the conflict. The plaques were initially installed on Kingshighway Boulevard in St. Louis, but with the passage of time and highway renovation some were lost while others were displaced and stored by the city's streets department. Eventually American Legion members raised funds to build a memorial to display the salvaged plaques as part of the Court of Honor. Photo © copyright 2013 Sid Hastings.
